Weekly Update

Hello everyone, hope everyone's year is off to a good start! Here's a look at some events to come in the next few weeks! General Body Meeting This Wednesday, September 4th at 6 PM in Norton 112 we will be having our second general body meeting. We'll be showing you how to sign up for ASCE National and all the benefits that come with it. Additionally, we'll be playing bingo to get to know our members better. Be sure to be in attendance as we'll be raffling off a windbreaker to one lucky member in attendance as well as some UB ASCE swag to our bingo winners! Design Team Meetings This Thursday, September 5th in 223 Jarvis Hall, all design teams will be holding their first meetings to discuss their plans for the coming year. The Seismic Design team meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, Concrete Canoe will begin at 7:00 pm, and the Steel Bridge Design team meeting will begin at 7:30 pm. If you are interested in joining any of these design teams be sure to stop by! Back-To-School Cookout ASCE will be hosting our annual cookout this Saturday September 7th in the Davis Courtyard from 5pm to 7pm. Come for some great free food and get to meet other club members. It will be a lot of fun so be sure to stop by!

Card Writing Event for Hannah Bocker This Wednesday, September 4th, ASCE will be holding a card-writing event and promoting a fundraiser for Hannah Bocker in Davis Lobby from 10:00am-2:00pm. On August 18th, a plane had struck the home of our fellow senior civil engineering student in Lagrangeville, NY. 21-year-old UB student Hannah Bocker is currently in critical condition while losing her father, dogs, house, and much more. We are calling all students and faculty to come together in support during this tragic time for the Bocker family. Come sign a get-well card which will be mailed to Hannah’s hospital. https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-bocker-family-needs-your-help Lafarge Quarry Tour ASCE will be taking a tour of Lafarge Concrete Plant's Quarry on Wednesday, September 25th from est. 11:30am-3:30pm. The planned tour is to see the testing lab, how asphalt is made, stockpiles, stone crushing, transportation of products, and a blast. This is an extremely rare and worthwhile opportunity everyone should consider attending! Registration closes September 22nd. Sign up at

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper Hey everyone, signups are currently available for Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper for Saturday, September 21 from 10 am - 12 pm. For people who didn't do it last year, Waterkeeper is an organization that cleans up Buffalo's waterways. After the event they hold a volunteer appreciation party at the Labatt House that is free for volunteers. It's a great time and a great way to give back to the community. This is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. We help out once a month, typically on the first Saturday.
