The Seismic design team is one of the three project teams under ASCE here at UB. The goal of our team is to design and construct a model skyscraper that can withstand simulated earthquakes. We are only allowed to use balsa wood and glue and every year we are presented different design constraints that adds a twist to the modeling and construction. With our model, we then compete at the annual Earthquake Engineering Research Institute's Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition. At this competition, 30-40 schools from around the world compete to see which team has created the most earthquake-resistant and cost-efficient tower.
