Weekly Update 03/10/19

General Body Meeting

We will have an optional meeting about internships and job opportunities on Monday, 3/11 at 5:00pm in Jarvis 223. Larry Matthews from ABCD will be coming in to talk about opportunities he can help students get. Larry is and alumni of UB and a huge supporter of our club and has been able to get internships for many student in the past so if you are looking for one it is highly recommending you attend. (See below for 2 current internship/job opportunities) Our next General Body Meeting will a joint meeting with the professional section on Tuesday 3/12 at 5:30pm at Banchetti's. If you signed up to attend this meeting, look out for an email about what time we will be leaving campus.

NITTEC Tour

We will be taking a tour of the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition or NITTEC on Friday, March 29th. We will be leaving the lab at 1pm and returning around 4pm. NITTEC is a coalition of different agencies who work to provide better traffic solutions for the Buffalo-Niagara region trough providing real time traffic analysis for highways and border crossings, informing motorists through means such as message boards and cameras, assisting emergency services and first responders and making emergency closures during weather events.Sign up here Questions? Elections

Election nominations are open here. You can nominate yourself or someone else for one or more positions. Elections will be 3/26 at 6:30 in NSC 222. If you have any questions about any of the positions you can reach out to any current E-board member to get contact info for the person who golds the position or check our website. It is important to attend this meeting so we meet quorum.

Design Teams

Concrete Canoe

We will be completing the pour for the 3ft section on Thursday, 3/14 at 4:30pmin the lab. This section is needed for competition and shows a small, cut away section of the canoe to demonstrate how we poured.

Steel Bridge

Fabrication Schedule: M - 9:30am-4pm T - 9:30am-4pm W - 9:30am-4pm Th - 9:30am-4pm F - 9:30am-4pm

Internship/Employment Opportunity

McMahon & Mann are looking for a full time 2019 graduate interested in geotechnical engineering, as well as a geotechnical intern for this summer. They are located in Buffalo, NY. To apply log in through your school handshake account and search McMahon & Mann. Kubit Engineering, PLLC is actively seeking Construction Inspectors to work on projects throughout the Western, NY area (Buffalo & Rochester). Candidates will be responsible for inspection and reporting of various field construction activities. The candidate must possess and maintain at least one of the following: NICET Level II, III, or IV Certification, E.I.T. or PE. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. A minimum of 6 months of experience in field inspection activities is desired; Site Manager or APPIA experience a plus.

Habitat for Humanity

We will once again be participating in habitat for humanity this semester. There are 2 more opportunities to help out, the next one is on April 6th. If you are interested in helping, please sign up using the link.

Relay for Life

We will be participating in the Relay for Life as a club. The event will take place on April 12th. Everyone should join the team and donate if possible. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. The link will take you to our teams page.

Scholarships

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has various scholarships for students posted on their website. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2019. Click the link for more info.
